My name is Sara, a surface pattern designer inspired by nature, daily objects and the symmetry of shapes based in New Brunswick, Canada. I'm passionate about creating designs that adds joy and hope to every day life. My creative process starts with a few doodle in my notepad, little by little I add life and stories to them and eventually infuse them life by digitizing them either in Procreate or Affinity Designer to give them a contemporary twist. My patterns are inspired from the nature and the colors I see all around me during my daily life, through the books I read for my toddler, the colors I see in computer games when I play with my 9 year old son, the authentic food I make for my family, the outdoor adventures I do with my family, and my road trips between Ontario and New Brunswick.
A little about me and my story: Since I remember myself, I was into drawing and art. I remember when I was a kid, I used go to art camps such as sketching, painting with oil, etc in summer times. I would made handmade cards, posters and illustrations for any occasion for my family, friends and for all sorts of school projects and would use any opportunity to use that creative side of myself! During high school and university, I always found side art projects and enjoyed working with different media whenever I get a chance! My creative journey started in 2015, when my passion for pretty papers led me to create handmade greeting cards using die cuts and started to sell them in local stores. I did that for a while but my soul was searching so intensely for a missing part and I never knew that the search will continue years later until I find my true passion: surface pattern design. Back again to 2015, I realized the art of modern calligraphy and I got hooked! Soon I was able to become a brand ambassador for a well known brush pen company, Tombow USA, and that one year I was working with them was magical: learning techniques, creating projects, running monthly challenges, giveaways, daily drills and practices, getting hand on the newest Tombow products and so on. I didn't know at the time where I wanted to go with what I was doing, but I just kept trying new things and exploring different techniques whenever I could. I started to get back into the game, this time really wanted to expand my horizon and purchased a monthly art boot camp in order to let the creative side floating. I purchased an iPad and it was the best thing happened to me. I originally wanted it to create digital calligraphy but discovered the world of surface pattern design, and that was it! Since then I have been creating, learning, tweaking, making patterns, exploring color pallets and the joy is ongoing. My hope and my true desire for someone using any product with my artwork on it, is to embrace joy, happiness and cheerful moments, as life is all about cherishing these moments. Right? I would love for you to join me in this journey, whether you are a creator of art or an admirer of art. Together we can create beautiful joyful art!
